The NY State Director of One on One Basketball is Chris Cordes. Chris has been an administrator in sports for 25 years. His work experience in athletics ranges from amateur, to collegiate to professional. Among his experiences on the professional level include a stint as director of sales and games operations for the NBA Charlotte Hornets, where he was selected as a member of the operations staff for the NBA All Star game in Miami, and as vice president of business and marketing for a minor league hockey team. He has also acted as a marketing consultant for an Arena Football League team and a member of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League. He has promoted over 15 NBA preseason games in various US cities, the most recent an October 2008 event in Syracuse NY, between the Suns and Nuggets, which drew a season record 22,000 fans. On the collegiate level, Cordes served as assistant athletic director for marketing at American University. On the amateur level he was an event producer for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. He designed and implemented the first ACC Basketball Tournament Fan Extravaganza, and acted as marketing director for United States Judo, Inc., the USOC governing body for the development of Olympic Judo athletes. Despite a professional career in administration, Cordes has also kept his hand in coaching. He has over 15 years experience as a high school and AAU coach, coaching both boys and girls. He successfully rehabilitated his own high school’s varsity girls program, leading them to their first winning record in 15 years and sending them to sectional tournament for the first time in a decade. In 2005 his 10 and under Potomac Valley, MD AAU club finished 5th nationally in the national tournament in Orlando, FL. While an accomplished coach of youth basketball, Cordes’ main strength is in individual training and skill development. He has successfully trained dozens of young basketball athletes and specializes among other area in the development of shooting. He is a graduate of Syracuse University, where he also served as a graduate assistant with the men’s basketball program for two years. He is married to wife Heather, and they have a seven year old son Arthur. |
